United States President Barack Obama salutes George J. Weiss, Jr. as he presents the 2010 Citizens Medal in the East Room of the White House in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010. In its release to the press, the White House stated "George Weiss, Jr., a veteran of World War II and the United States Marine Corps, reflects our nations generous and selfless heart.  In 1979, he founded the Fort Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad, which today consists of more than 125 volunteers who have performed final military honors for more than 55,000 deceased veterans.  Weiss receives the Citizens Medal for his extraordinary service to our nations veterans and their families." This Medal is among the highest honors a President can bestow, and it stands as a token of gratitude to those who represent what is best about this Nation.
